In 2016, WJI was awarded a highly competitive grant from the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women to implement project entitled “Eradicating Violence against Women and Girls and Improving Access to Justice for Maya Rural Women through Culture-based Community Interventions.” Over 3 years, WJI expanded its programs and worked to reduce gender-based violence in the indigenous-majority municipality of Patzún, achieving transformational results.
