Dear Friends of WJI,

As you may have heard, yesterday the Fuego Volcano erupted in Guatemala, directly affecting the towns of El Rodeo, Alotenango, and San Miguel los Lotes. This area of severe impact is located about 10 miles south of Antigua. The death toll has risen to over 60 with many injured and still missing. More than 3,100 people have been evacuated and 1.7 million people have been affected by the eruption.

I wanted to let you know that none of WJI's staff has been directly affected by the eruption and everyone is safe. The areas where we work have dealt with raining ash and sand but otherwise have been out of harm’s way.

We are donating supplies to the relief fund and we will keep you updated with any additional news related to our work. Thank you for your concern and we stand in solidarity with those families and communities who are beginning the long process of rebuilding after this tragedy.
