Alejandra Colom

Guatemala Country Director, Population Council­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­

As the Country Director for the Population Council, Alejandra Colom oversees project design, implementation and evaluation and research on a range of issues concerning girls, adolescents and young women. Alejandra is responsible for proposal development, financial monitoring of grants and projects and collaboration with local and international partners. Before joining the Population Council, Alejandra was the Associate Project Director for the Rainforest Alliance in Guatemala. Alejandra brings an array of expertise to the Women’s Justice Initiative. Her experience working with Guatemalan women and young girls in rural communities is critical to WJI’s program development and strategic planning. Her knowledge of NGO management and oversight is also very helpful for the organization.

Alejandra holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology at Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, a Master of Anthropology from University of Maryland and a Licenciatura and Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.


Clara Ferraro

Head of Investor Relations, Tiger Global Management

Clara is the Head of Investor Relations at Tiger Global Management, LLC, an investment firm based in New York City. Tiger Global manages hedge funds and private equity funds by investing in public and private equity markets. Prior to Tiger Global, Clara was an Investment Banker at Allen & Company, LLC, where she focused on Internet and Media investments. Clara earned a BA in Sociology from Yale University.


Cecilia Garcés

Curriculum and Education Specialist – Population Council-Guatemala

Cecilia Garcés works for the Population Council in Guatemala as their Curriculum and Education Specialist. She has more than 15 years experience teaching social sciences, human rights, and citizenship at the primary, secondary, and university level. She has worked with schools and nonprofit organizations to develop education programs and curriculum for students and teachers. Cecilia has worked as a consultant for a range of government and non-governmental institutions, researching and developing education materials in the areas of health, human rights, discrimination, children and youth, and sexual and reproductive rights. Cecilia holds a degree in Anthropology from the Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala and a Masters in Ethnicity and Multiculturalism from the University of Bristol in Great Britain.


Marcela Gereda

Journalist and Columnist

Marcela Gereda is a Journalist and Columnist for El Periódico, one of Guatemala’s leading independent daily newspapers. Through her work, Marcela chronicles the complexities of Guatemalan society, culture, and history. She focuses on exposing the vast inequality that exists within Guatemala, a country that is considered one of the most unequal in the world. Additionally, Marcela works as a consultant implementing qualitative and quantitative research for a range of institutions working in the fields of violence against women and girls, children, youth, and gender, including the Myrna Mack Foundation, Plan International, the Universidad de San Carlos, and IGER- Instituto Guatemalteco de Educación Radiofónica. Marcela holds a degree in Anthropology from the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and Masters Degrees in Latin American Studies and Society, Culture, and Development from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.


Thea Handelman

Tax Counsel – Amazon

As Tax Counsel at Amazon, Thea Handelman develops tax structures and advises on federal tax aspects of domestic and international mergers and acquisitions. Before joining Amazon, Thea worked as Tax Cousel for NBC Universal, as a Tax Associate at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, LLP in New York and as Law Clerk in the Office of the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in Portland, Oregon. Thea holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University. She is a member of the New York State Bar.


Morgan Flatley

Chief Marketing Officer– Gatorade

As Gatorade’s Chief Marketing Officer, Morgan leads all advertising, marketing, and integrated communications planning for the brand. Drawing on rich experience in creative marketing and brand management, Morgan oversees the communications strategy for Gatorade, which includes: creative planning and execution, media strategy and investment, digital strategy and entertainment marketing. Before her current position, Morgan was responsible for the introduction of G2, which became the most successful launch in the company’s history. Morgan is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School.
