About the Women’s Justice Initiative (WJI):
WJI improves the lives of indigenous Guatemalan women and girls through education, access to legal services, and gender-based violence prevention. WJI works in rural communities where women face extreme poverty, high rates of gender inequality and violence against women and girls (VAWG), and have little or no access to resources. WJI increases access to justice for Maya women and girls and combats VAWG by providing free legal services, bilingual legal education, and leadership training in 72 communities in five municipalities in Chimaltenango through its four programs: Women’s Rights Education, Legal Services, Community Advocates, and Adolescent Girls.
Job Description:
The Communications and Development Officer will form an essential part of the Communications and Development team and help further WJI’s goals related to communication and resource development. The Officer will support the Director of Development and Communications and the Impact and Development Officer in implementing WJI’s communications and strategic development plans to increase funding and support for WJI’s programmatic work. The Officer will develop and implement communications strategies, research prospective funding opportunities, manage external relations and communications requests, and support the Director of Development and Communications, Impact and Development Officer, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Programs Director, and Executive Director in the creation and revision of concept notes, reports, and databases. Responsibilities:
- Design content and graphics for organization’s external communications including the website, social networks, e-blasts, monthly newsletters, printed materials, annual reports, and other communications materials
- Develop targeted yearly communications plans
- Collect and document stories of impact from staff and beneficiaries, including interviews, photos and videos
- Translate publications and internal program documents, as needed
- Conduct grant research and support the development of grant concept notes, applications, and reports
- Support online fundraising campaigns
- Mange donor database and correspondence with donors
- Data entry and analysis, and support of monitoring and evaluation activities
- Monitor national and international news coverage
- Research and compile statistics on education, health, poverty, and violence in Guatemala
- Support communications and technology training of local staff
Desired qualifications:
- Bilingual Spanish and English
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to stay organized, work systematically, and pay close attention to detail

- Willingness to support organizational capacity-building activities
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Salesforce, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, Mailchimp, Hoostuite, and Canva
- Experience in photography or videography
- Experience in graphic design
- Some experience in grant writing and strong research skills
- Understanding of the Latin American or Central American context
- Academic or work experience in the fields of international relations, women’s rights, law, or development
- Comfort traveling to rural contexts
